Six Great Things To Do In Pittsburgh (for first-time visitors)

Are you looking for the best things to do in the City of Steel and Bridges: Pittsburgh? In this post, I have gathered some of the must-dos in Pittsburgh for first-time visitors.
I recently visited Pittsburgh on my way from Ohio to Philadelphia and was pleasently surprised by the many great things to do there! The downtown of Pittsburgh is rather small, which means you can easily explore it by foot within a day. Also, if you have more time to spare, there are a ton of interesting museums in the city. Here are some of the best and most interesting things to do in Pittsburgh as a first time visitor:
Head up to mt. washington for great views
One of the best things to do in Pittsburgh is see the city from above! Did you know that Pittsburgh is known as “The City of Bridges”? With 446 bridges and three major rivers, it is a stunning sight to see from a distance!
One of the best views of the city can be found on Mount Washington. To get here, you can either drive your car to the park, or alternatively take the Duquesne Incline for a quick, fun experience!

Treat Yourself at the strip district
Another great thing to do in Pittsburgh is to visit the Strip District. This area is a historic and highly popular shopping street in Pittsburgh, which clearly stands out with its red brick buildings formerly used for industrial purposes.
If you are looking for a great place to grab a bite to eat, The Strip District is your friend! In the area, you can find several food halls and gardens with a variety of specialities and cuisines to endulge on!
If you come during the day, you will be able to explore souvenir-shops, local businesses and buy fresh produce at the markets. And at night, the area turns into a vibrant restaurant and bar area! On some days, there are live music and entertainment, and the whole area has a great atmosphere!

Take a walk at point state park
Another great thing to do in Pittsburgh is to take a stroll at Point State Park. This centrally located park is surrounded by the rivers on two sides and offers stunning views over the waterfront and some of Pittsburghs many bridges.
At the top of the park, you will find the iconic Point Fountain, which makes for an impressive sight! Just note that they often turn the fountain off during rainy days. Either way, it is a great place to enjoy a coffee, picnic or some time to reflect and relax.

explore the squares in downtown
Downtown Pittsburgh is another area you have to explore, if you visit Pittsburgh as a first timer! I found downtown Pittsburgh easy to explore by foot, as most places are located close to each other. Some of the most interesting areas are around Market Square, PPG Plaza and Melon Square. I suggest to roam around the streets for an explore!
Pittsburgh also have a lot of historic, old buildings worth taking a walk by. Why not take a stroll through Fourth Avenue Historic District and stop at any thing that tickles your fancy?

Walk across the three sisters
Finally, you cannot visit Pittsburgh without walking across one of its famous bridges. Right next to downtown Pittsburgh lies The Three Sisters. These similar suspension bridges are placed right next to each other and named after Andy Worhol, Rachel Carsen and Robert Clemente. As you walk across the bridges, you will be met with amazing views over the river and city as a whole.
