Welcome to Portugal!
With charming towns, azure blue coasts, luscious green hills and fairytales castles, Portugal is truely one of those countries that keep getting better the more you explore. Having only scratched the surface of its treasures, I’m filled with anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead!
Once you set foot in Portugal, you’ll be enchanted by its warm hospitality, delicious cuisine, and abundance of UNESCO World Heritage sites. While Lisbon holds a special place in my heart and comes highly recommended, the wonders of Portugal extend far beyond its capital city.
Whether you’re drawn to the vibrant streets of Lisbon, the enchanting landscapes and castles of Sintra, or seeking solo adventures across this breathtaking country, you’ve come to the right place. Take a look at my guides below and start planning your Portugeese adventures today!
Language: In Portugal, the official language spoken is Portuguese, which is also one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. But if this isn’t within your set of language skills, the majority of the people you meet will have at least a basic level of skills in English! I have personally never had any issues communicating in English in neither the South of Portugal or Lisbon and Sintra.
Currency: The official currency of Portugal is euros.
Best time to visit: The best time to visit Portugal largely depends on your preferences and interests. Generally, the spring months of April and May and the autumn months of September and October are considered ideal for visiting Portugal. During these periods, the weather is mild and pleasant, with fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season. But basking in the sun in the peaks of summer has its charm too – just be aware of sun protection, hydration and your nearest pool or sea dip!
Solo travel safety: In my personal experience, travelling solo in Portugal is both a breeze and such an amazing experience. As always, you have to know your basic solo travel safety guidelines and research places before you go, but I have personally never felt unsafe or been in any suspicious situations in Lisbon, Sintra or travelling onwards to the South of Portugal. If you wan’t some in-depth tips on travelling solo in Lisbon, check out my guide below!
