Welcome to Poland!
From the medieval streets of Krakow to the modern skyline of Warsaw and the breathtaking mountains in Zakopane, Poland offers a diverse array of experiences waiting to be discovered.
Traveling to Poland was a positively surprising experience for me. I was astounded to discover stunning mountain scenery reminiscent of Austria, all within one of Europe’s most budget-friendly destinations. The picturesque, colorful houses of Gdansk and Wroclaw added to the charm, inviting visitors to pause and soak in the beauty of their surroundings. Poland truely has so much to offer and doesn’t get nearly enough attention!
Whether you’re wandering through UNESCO World Heritage sites, immersing yourself in the vibrant arts scene, exploring historically significant sights or simply savoring a warm bowl of pierogi, Poland promises an adventure like no other. Take a look at my guides below and start planning your Polish adventures today!
Language: The official language in Poland is Polish. And as a fellow European I can tell you, that this is not an easy language to guess your way through! In both Krakow, Zakopane and Gdansk, I have had the impression that most Polish people have limited English skills. However, it is definitely possible to get by in the big cities in English, but it might require reframing or repeating your questions at times.
Currency: The official currency on Poland is Polish Zloty.
Best time to visit: If you are heading to Poland to explore its beautiful landscapes and outdoor scenary, I would recommend visiting during June to August, when the temperature is at its highest. However, winter in Poland offers a different kind of charm with festive holiday markets, snowy landscapes, and the chance to experience traditional Polish winter activities like ice skating and sleigh rides. Just be prepared for colder temperatures and shorter days!
Solo travel safety: In general, I would say that Poland feels quite safe as a solo traveller, as long as your know which areas to avoid in the big cities during the night. I enjoyed my solo trip to Gdansk SO much and would completely recommend doing it, as long as you follow the normal solo travel safety precautions!
