Language: The official language of Italy is Italian. In most cases, you will be able to get away with speaking English to locals, although the level of English will vary greatly depending on the age of the locals. But you can go a long way with a smile and gestures!
Currency: The official currency of Italy is euros.
Best time to visit: Italy is one of those destinations, that are actually best to visit during the shoulder season (April-June and September-October), where the weather is milder and the crowds a fewer! Cities like Rome and Naples will be HOT during the summer months. So if you are heading to Italy during peak summer, it is best to be near the water or have a pool available for a dip!
Solo travel safety: In my personal experience, Italy is a pretty safe solo travel destination. And it is a great destination to meet fellow solo travellers, as there are a ton of great hostels around the country! As a solo female traveller, I will say, that you might get some unwanted attention from local italians, if you are wandering around on your own. I have never experienced anything dangerous though – just something to be mentally prepared for!
