Here’s how to spend 2 unforgettable days in Oslo!
2 Days In Oslo – The Perfect Itinerary
Day 1: Explore Oslo Center On Foot – Oslo Cathedral, City Hall And More
Start out your first day in Oslo by getting some steps in in the center of the city. The center of Oslo is a very charming area with an interesting blend of old, historical buildings, modern malls and buzzling streets. Personally, I always prefer the historical site to any city. If you are the same, be sure to stop by Oslo Cathedral and Oslo City Hall for some beautiful views and architecture. And if you are more into strolling and shopping, you will have plenty of options here! Be sure to walk along Karl Johans Gaten for beautiful views and interesting stops along the way.
Next: Head Towards The Royal Palace Via The Beautiful Stortingsgata
Next, head along Stortingsgata towards the stunning Royal Palace of Oslo. On one side of the street, you will find a beautiful walking path shaded by a line of trees leading almost all the way to the palace. Surrounded by the beautiful Palace Park, this grand building is where the Norwegian royal family resides. You can take a guided tour of the palace during the summer months, where you’ll get to explore the opulent state rooms and learn about the history of Norway’s monarchy. Even if you don’t join a tour, strolling through the palace grounds is a must. The park is the perfect spot for a relaxing walk, and if you’re there at the right time, you can even catch the daily changing of the guard ceremony right in front of the palace!
Next: Walk By Aker Brygge For Refreshments, Lunch And Ocean Views
By now, you will likely have tired legs and a hungry stomach. The next stop on your 2 days in Oslo should undoubtably be Aker Brygge – a lively waterfront district full of restaurants, cafes, and shops, all with stunning views of the Oslofjord. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a delicious meal with a view, stroll along the boardwalk, or simply soak in the relaxed atmosphere, Aker Brygge has something for everyone. In the summer, it’s the perfect place to sit outside and watch boats come and go from the marina, while in the winter, the cozy indoor venues are ideal for warming up. With its modern architecture mixed with remnants of Oslo’s industrial past, Aker Brygge offers a unique blend of history and contemporary charm.
Next: Explore Akerhus Fortress On Your Way
Just by Aker Brygge lies Akerhus – a historic medieval castle perched on a hill overlooking the Oslofjord, which offers both a fascinating glimpse into Norway’s past and some of the best views in the city. You can wander through its centuries-old walls, explore the beautiful grounds, and visit the Royal Mausoleum, where Norwegian kings and queens are buried. The fortress also houses the Norwegian Resistance Museum, which provides insight into Norway’s role during World War II. Independent of what your interests are, a stop by Akerhus is definitely worth it during your 2 days in Oslo!
Next: Take An Afternoon Cruise On Oslo Fjords
For your first afternoon in Oslo, why not head out on a cruise of the breathtaking Oslo Fjords for a real experience of Norways natural beauty? As you sail through the calm waters, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Oslo’s skyline, charming islands, and rugged coastline. The boat glides past picturesque lighthouses, hidden coves, and colorful seaside cottages, giving you a different perspective of the city and its surrounding nature. Many cruises also offer guided commentary, so you can learn about the fjord’s history and geography while relaxing on deck. Or you could join a cruise on this smaller, charming sailing ship for a more authentic and less crowded experience!
Finally: Enjoy An Evening Of Drinks, Food And Great Company At Oslo Street Food
Finally, end your first of 2 days in Oslo at the Oslo Street Food Hall for an evening filled with amazing tastes and even better company. Located in a vibrant indoor food hall, Oslo Street Food offers a wide variety of cuisines from around the world, all under one roof. Whether you’re craving Mexican tacos, Japanese sushi, Indian curries, or classic Norwegian dishes, you’ll find something delicious to try. The lively atmosphere, with buzzing food stalls and communal seating, makes it a great place to unwind after a day of exploring. Grab a bite, sip on a local craft beer, and soak up the energetic vibe as you mingle with locals and travelers alike. It’s the perfect spot for food lovers looking to sample Oslo’s diverse culinary scene in a relaxed setting.
Day 2: Start Your Morning With A Cold Plunge And Sauna Experience
With 2 days in Oslo, doing a cold plunge in the Norweigan waters is a must! And what if I told you there is a treat after dipping into the ice cold sea? Right on the Oslo waterfront, you’ll find floating saunas where you can warm up in the heat before taking a daring dip in the chilly Oslo Fjord! You can either head into one of the more budget-friendly self-service public saunas – or treat yourself to a private sauna experience for an hour or two! The contrast of the hot sauna and the cold water leaves you feeling energized and revitalized, ready to take on another day of exploration.
Next: Walk By The Oslo Opera House, Walk On The Roof And Maybe Pay A Visit!
Since you have already been enjoying the view of the iconic Oslo Opera House during your cold plunge, now is the time to go for an explore! This striking, modern building sits right on the edge of the Oslo Fjord, and its sloping, white roof is perfect for walking up and enjoying amazing views of the city and water. Inside, it’s home to the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, but even if you’re not catching a show, it’s worth stopping by to explore or just relax.
Next: Explore Frogners Park & Vigeland Sculpture Park
If you have followed me on any of my adventures, you will now that my top priority in any city is to find the best parks and nature areas. And in Oslo, this is the place to be! This park is not only the largest in the city, but it’s also home to the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park, featuring over 200 sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland. As you stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds, you’ll see everything from towering statues to small, intricate figures, all capturing different aspects of human life. It’s a peaceful and fascinating place to walk around, snap some photos, and enjoy the greenery. A perfect way to spend your morning before refueling with a great lunch!
Next: Enjoy A Delicious Lunch At Mamma Pizza – You Won’t Regret It
Now for probably my biggest recommendations for 2 days in Oslo: Having a pizza at Mammas Pizza. We found this place while roaming around the streets – and was immediately captivated by the relaxed atmosphere and the delicious smell of pizzas. I am not lying when I tell you, that this is probably the best pizza I have ever had. Maybe I got lucky with my pick – or maybe they are all amazing, but one thing is for sure: You wont know unless you try!
Next: Spend The Afternoon Visiting Bygdø Penninsula On Bike Or Foot!
An itinerary of 2 days in Oslo would not be complete without the option to explore one of Oslos many iconic museums. After enjoying a delicious lunch, why not head towards the charming Bygdø? This area is known for its charming countryside vibe, even though it’s just a short distance from the city center. The peninsula is home to several of Oslo’s top museums, like the Viking Ship Museum and the Fram Museum. But if museums are not your thing, the scenic coastal paths and lush greenery make the peninsula perfect for a leisurely ride or walk too! You can soak in the views of Oslo’s fjords, explore hidden beaches, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere away from the city’s hustle. It’s a relaxing and fun way to spend your afternoon!
Finally: Spend Your Last Evening At Enjoying Drinks and Delicious Food In Oslos Vibrant Culinary Scene
For your second night in Oslo, wrap up your day by enjoying some of the city’s fantastic spots for food and drinks. Oslo has a vibrant culinary scene, with everything from trendy cocktail bars to cozy, laid-back restaurants. Head to Grünerløkka, a lively neighborhood packed with cool eateries and bars offering a relaxed, fun atmosphere. You could start with a dinner at one of the area’s many international restaurants, serving anything from fresh seafood to delicious street food. Afterward, pop into a local bar for a craft beer or expertly mixed cocktail. If you’re up for it, take a walk along Youngstorget, another popular spot for nightlife with a great selection of bars and live music venues. It’s the perfect way to wind down and enjoy the vibrant energy of Oslo in the evening!
Do You Have More Than 2 days In Oslo?
Head Outside Of The City To Hike Kolsåstoppen!
If you have more than 2 days in Oslo, a hike up Kolsåstoppen is an excellent way to experience Norway’s stunning natural landscapes, right outside the city. Just a short drive or train ride from central Oslo, this hike offers a moderate challenge with incredible rewards at the top. There are several trails to pick from, and I am sure you can find something, that fits you and your travel partner(s)! The trails winds through peaceful forests and rocky terrain, leading you to sweeping views over the Oslofjord, the city skyline, and the surrounding countryside. It’s the perfect getaway if you’re craving some fresh air and adventure, and it’s a fantastic spot to take in Norway’s natural beauty without venturing too far from the city.
Explore Charming Norweigan Towns Like Drøbak and Frederikstad!
Another great thing to do, if you have more than 2 days in Oslo, is taking a day trip to one of the charming Norwegian towns nearby, like Drøbak or Fredrikstad. Drøbak, located along the Oslofjord, is known for its cozy wooden houses, lively harbor, and even its connection to the Norwegian Santa Claus! It’s the perfect place for a relaxed stroll by the water or to visit the Christmas House, no matter the season. Fredrikstad, on the other hand, offers a well-preserved old town with cobbled streets and charming shops, as well as a riverside atmosphere that’s perfect for exploring on foot. Both towns are just a short drive or train ride from Oslo and provide a delightful contrast to the city’s busy streets.
